Bon week end

Hi everyone, how was your week ? do you have any fun plans for the week end ?
We're going to a baby party later on this afternoon, it should be really fun, I love seeing all the kids in their costumes. And then tomorrow, we'll probably just take it easy...that's what week end are for right ?

In the meantime, here are a few interesting links from my week on the web :

- I would love to go spend a week end in this fabulous hotel... looks like the perfect place for a romantic getaway.
- Who said bow ties are only for guys ?
- Cute city bags from famille Summerbelle. I'll take the Paris one please !
- I'm thinking about getting this bag poster for our entryway
- Moustaches en folie !

Have a lovely week end

Vincent Delerm - Bataclan 2009

This is the concert I wish I hadn't missed...

Vincent Delerm is one of the most talented French singer-songwriter-pianist-composer !
His songs are fantastic, and his ability to describe French lifestyle and people is truly amazing...

I started to listen to him right when I moved over to Boston and he was pretty much the soundtrack of my first year in America.
Now even little O loves his music, he's definitely our number 1 pick in the car in the morning.

V. describes his music as 'so French' (what does he mean ?), I just think he's an amazing artist.

Another great song here (enjoy)

Tell me, what music makes you instantly happy ?

Vive la France !

I told you I'd be back with more lists this here I am with a little top 5 of what I wish I could import from France to the US :

- Les terrasses de cafés : Gosh I miss them SO MUCH ! There's nothing better than sitting there 'en terrasse' having a drink and watching people go by. The 'commenting' part with a girlfriend is optional but highly recommended.

- Time off : 5 weeks vacation a year and 16 weeks maternity leave (FULLY paid)... I still don't know how people can deal with only 2 weeks vacation a year over here (I would go on strike for this if I could :)  and how expecting mom can work until they actually go into labor to be officially on maternity leave for only 8 weeks (12 if you're lucky but not fully paid) ! When I found out, I remember asking my boss if I was supposed to wait at my desk for my water to break. He probably felt sorry for me towards the end when I was so huge I couldn't see my feet anymore, so he gave me 2 weeks off before my due date (cool boss).

- Bakeries (especially les viennoiseries) : you know, croissant, pain au chocolat and my personal favorite chausson aux pommes (kind of an apple turnover only better) which is my number one purchase as soon as I get out of the plane at Charles de Gaulle (I'm serious, number 2 is French magazines)

- Shopping : Comptoir, Maje, Sandro, Pricesse Tam Tam, Petit BateauOkaidi, FNAC, Jonak, Mellow yellow, Galeries Lafayette, Printemps, Parashop, and all the amazing little independant stores... I miss you guys... I'll see you in December.

- La Tour Eiffel : a bit cliché I know but honestly, despite my 3 years in Paris, I'll always feel like a tourist in front of it and I'm pretty sure I'll never get bored of looking at it glittering at night (here)... so magical

Have you ever been to France ? Where did you go ? What did you like or didn't like ?

Hot mama

This morning I got an email from my Dutch friend Judith saying that she's expecting baby #2 !! So exciting !
It's funny because 7 of my friends are pregnant right now and I feel there might be more coming soon... Oh la la babies everywhere, that's awesome !

So here's a little piece of advise on how to look like a hot mama while your bank account is being atomised by baby gear purchases.

I personally lived in denial and kept wearing my normal clothes (and found some ridiculous pride in doing so) until I was about 4-5 months. And then one day I was in Amsterdam for work hanging out with my friend Judith (again) and she started to tease me for wearing my skinny jeans unbuttoned with a long tunic on top. So she took me to the closest H&M so I could get a proper pair of maternity jean.
And TA-DA !! I saw the light ! H&M Mama ! So comfortable, stylish and with a tiny price tag...perfect !

After this episode, as I grew bigger I kept going back to H&M to stock on maternity clothes to complete my preggo uniform (long cardigan + tunic/dress + leggings/tights)

Topshop is my other favorite (although a bit more pricey) and you can buy the maternity collection online too. Not all H&M stores carry the Mama range but usually at least one per city does. Check it out here

So here you go my lovely expecting friends, you should be all set to look hot and gorgeous for the next 9 months.

Dear readers, do you have any good piece of advise you'd like to share with soon-to-be mamas ?

Parka dilemma

Top to bottom : Spiewak, Topshop, Mink Pink

It's getting chilly here in Boston and now that we're getting into this time of the year (mi-saison as my mom calls it) when it's too cold out not to wear a jacket but not cold enough to wear your arctic winter jacket, I realized that I want need a parka.

Ok, I secretly totally wanted a cape this season, but let's be realistic for a second, it's probably not the most convenient piece to wear when you either dropping off a toddler with a runny nose at daycare carrying 2 bags (yours + his) and trying to avoid to get some snort on your shoulder, or running after the same kid, high on sugar this time, at the playground...
No, no, no... I need something comfortable and practical above all, hence the parka !

My only dilemma now is to pick one.
Help me please ! Which one would you go for ? Also most come in black (= goes with everything) and khaki (= goes with less things), what color would you pick ?

Edit 10/25/10 - Thanks for all the comments, I've just ordered the first one in Olive, yay ! xx

Americaaaa !!

Last week I realised that it's been 4 years since we moved over to the US.
FOUR years !! I can't believe it !

And guess what happened over 4 years ?? The little Frenchie you know got completely addicted to the American way of life. Yep. I've discovered here some amazing stuff I would definitely miss a lot if we ever move back to Europe.

My little top 5 :

- Mani/Pedi : yes, manicure and pedicure, so cheap and so well done you can't resist. My mom and sisters are totally addicted too, my nail salon is their last stop before going back to France so they can show off their perfect nails back home

- Bravo/ABC shows : all I would say is Dancing with the Stars, Modern Family and the Real Housewifes (of any city)... so addictive. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out You Tube, you'll love it

- Thanksgiving : because 1- it's coming, 2- it's all about food and family, 3- it gives such a joyful holiday feeling to the month of November (which used to be my least favorite month back in France because of the rain/cold/la Toussaint and overall gloominess), 4- pumpkin pie

- Walking around in your sweats or yoga clothes on weekends : such a genius idea, I would have NEVER done that in Paris (even to go get a baguette down in my street) and now I happily go get my nails done in my sweats on the week end and I LOVE it. No turning back.

- WholeFoods : because it's so nicely merchandised (hello fruits and veggies pyramids), because it has all the French cheeses that I love (prices x10) and because it feels so healthy and organic that I don't mind getting hit with a $100 price tag for 2 half empty grocery bags (ouch !)

Of course there's many other things that I love here and also many many things I miss from France (who said 5 weeks vacation a year ?). More about that this week...

How about you ? What do you like the most about where you live ? and what do you miss the most from home ?

Bon week end !

My dears, how was your week ? Mine was a little bit more crazy than expected but all good  :)
Our main plan for the weekend is to RELAX and I like it that way... I'll probably make some crêpes with my little man and book our tickets to France for Christmas (yayyyy !!!)

In the meantime, here are a few things I loved this week :

- Can anybody think of a better gift for an expecting mom ? I can't
- An amazing amazing video of a homemade spacecraft (what a cool dad !)
- This rug makes me happy by just looking at it (who needs Prozac when you own this ?)
- The coolest lunch boxes ever ! I have a few years before little O hits preschool, I better start practicing now
- Lastly, a touch of French for the week

Have a fantastic week end everyone

Le petit atelier de Paris

J'adore le Petit Atelier de Paris... I just discovered this small boutique which describes itself as a provider of daily happiness.
Every item is designed and handmade in the atelier and to be honest, it would take me forever to make up my mind about what to buy. Everything is so cute.

That said, breakfast being my favorite meal of the day, I would totally invest on the breakfast set (above).
I also love the little porcelain bell houses mobile, and the inclusion bowls too of course. They would be great for chips and dip.

What do you think ?

That's it !
2 hours 4 minutes and 18 seconds that's how long it took me to run the 13.1 miles of my 1st Boston half marathon this week end !
I was so happy and proud when I crossed the finish line that I clapped for myself !

Of course V. and little O. were there to cheer me on, but I think my dad who's always been a runner, was my biggest fan. I swear he sounded prouder over the phone than when I graduated from business school !

I have to say it's such a good feeling to be able to mentally cross something off your "things I want to do before I'm too old" list .
A few months ago, I turned 30, and even though I tried really hard to be super cool about it, I felt it was time to start acting upon things I had been talking about for years !
Less procrastinating and more doing is my new mantra :)

Of course I still have more stuff on my list like learning Spanish again and successfully translating French jokes in English so V. can see how hilarious I can be (hum)... I'll get there...eventually.

Oh and by the way, guess what was on my list before "running a half marathon" ? Starting a blog ! Yep... Check

How about you ? What's on your list ? Please share I want to know :)

Bon week end

I started the week with a song so I figured I would end it with one too :)

How was your week ? Are you doing anything fun this week end ?
It's Columbus day week end here in the States which equals long week end (3 days - hooray !!)

I'm running the Boston half-marathon on Sunday... I'M RUNNING THE BOSTON HALF MARATHON ON SUNDAY AND I'M SCARED !!
It did look like a good idea at first, but now I'm not so sure....
Oh well, I should be alright but I'm still getting a little bit nervous, my first half !

I leave you with the last song from my running playlist. Next time I listen to it I'll be hopefully crossing the finish line (hopefully).

Wish me luck xxx

Le petit chaperon rouge

If I had a girl...
...she would wear this adorable cape from Bobo Choses and this cute print would be in her bedroom.

Wanted !

My jaw dropped earlier when I found this on the Comptoir des Cotonniers website.
This has always been one of my favorite go-to French brand (mostly for clothes), but I have to say this season, they've really stepped up their game when it comes to accessories.

I mean, these bags are gorgeous... Ok, so I'm adding #3,6 and 7 to my Xmas wish list (V. if you read this...)

In the meantime, here are some more affordable options at Ruche : check out the debriefing and the what's up doc handbags...

What do you think ? Which one is your favorite ? Do you have a great bag on your radar this season ?

3 Sprouts

I really like these new wall organizers by 3 Sprouts. I can see the moose one ending up on little O's bedroom wall very soon.

Last year, little O was a dragon for his first Halloween... I thought he looked so cute in his green outfit but he didn't seem to like it. As we were walking to a Halloween baby party that day, people were smiling at him in his stroller. His response ? A classic 'I'm so miserable' look on his face followed by the 'I hate my parents for doing this to me'... Good times.

I love Halloween just because of the kids costumes. Seriously, it's almost too much cuteness to handle... At O's daycare they have a Halloween parade every year and all the kids look so damn cute

Today I was looking for some costume ideas for my little man and I found some good options. I just don't know which one to pick just yet :)

Which one is your favorite ? I really like Zorro and Captain America, what do you think ?

Oh and before you go, a few more crazy options : check out this one and this one (priceless).
